For dinner tonight Evan had whole wheat spaghetti and some turkey meatballs. It was pretty amusing to watch him eat the uncut spaghetti. He made an amazing slurping noise while he sucked the noodles in - first one at a time but then he decided to put an entire handful in. All in all, it was a fantastic dinner.

Snuggle Time
I used to love "Baby Daddy naps" when Evan and I used to sleep together during his naps. He's gotten a bit bigger and has outgrown this and I find myself missing it. This Friday night after he fell asleep, I moved him into the bed with Jill and I for a few minutes. We took turns giving him a hug and to my surprise he started giggling in his sleep. Here's a shot of Evan sleeping in his crib we took not too long ago so you can get a similar visual.

Evan's First Birthday
After our big trip to the fair and a semi-long nap it was time for the rest of Evan's birthday festivities. Evan ate his first pizza ever. He ate an entire slice with no trouble at all. Next it was on to the cake. We sang Happy Birthday and with a little help from Mom (OK -- a lot of help) he blew out the candle.
Next up was eating the cake. At first Evan was a bit baffled - he played around with the frosting but didn't eat it. After Jill gave him a little taste he dove in with both hands.
Last but certainly not least came the presents. We got Evan a few toys and his fantastic extended family had sent him a bunch of goodies as well. We all sat down, opened cards and ripped off wrapping paper. Evan immediately began playing with some of his new toys.
What a fantastic time all three of us had today. He went to sleep easy tonight and I bet he'll sleep in late tomorrow. We took a bunch more pictures and posted them online. Click here if you'd like to see them.
A trip to the Puyallp Fair
Today is Evan's first birthday so we figured we should take him somewhere fun - and what's more fun than the Puyallup Fair? Evan really had a blast!
With all that excitement it's little surprise he slept the entire way home. What a great way for us all to spend Evan's first birthday.
He saw all the big rides.
He saw a ton of farm animals (he even petted the sheep).

I can see my house from here!
Last weekend we took a trip over to West Seattle to walk along Alki beach. It sits opposite our place in Queen Anne so it's a neat view of where we live that we don't see too much. Evan got a chance to play on a stone beach and really enjoyed crawling over all the rocks, picking them up, banging them together, and of course trying to shove them into his mouth.
Bumbershoot Baby
Last weekend Jill and I took Evan to his first rock concert. Every summer in Seattle there is a music festival over labor day weekend called Bumbershoot and it's held just a few blocks away from our house. We took Evan to see The Shins and he seemed to enjoy it. When the crowd clapped at the end of a song, he joined in too.

Evan, where's...
After 11 months of talking to Evan, he's beginning to understand what we're saying! When we say "Evan, where's your Ball?" he now goes and gets his ball. It's quite amazing to me. He can also find his shoes, his rubber duckey, and can even tell a number of his stuffed animals apart. I bet it's only a matter of time before he's talking back to us.
