Egg Hunt 2 and 3 and 4

Our church tells the Easter story and has an egg hunt for the kids the day before Easter.   Evan and Alexis found tons and tons of eggs full of candy.

Believe it or not there was ANOTHER hunt.   Evan, Grandma, Grandpa and Alexis all hid easter baskets for each other. First Grandma and Grandpa found theirs.

Then Alexis found hers upstairs in her playhouse,  The yellow thing you see in her basket is yet another cat.  Grandma is feeding into Alexis's love of cats.  This cat has a giggle (pacifier) in its mouth.  Alexis calls it Giggle Cat.  The cat count is now up to 4- Shadow, Pursley, Millie, and Giggle.  She sleeps with all of them and 2 dogs- Patches and Doggie Woof Woof.  Evan says Alexis is one cat away from being a weirdo.  Interesting comment from a child who thinks he is a peacock and sleeps with Peep, Turkey, Turkey's cousin, Duffy (ok so he is a bear that is normal), Seth the eel, a stuffed peacock and 2 ladybugs.  To each his own.

Grandma thought Evan was going to have a hard time finding his but nope! He found it pretty quickly. The amount of candy in this house is now off the charts.

THEN it was off to the neighborhood egg hunt. All the kids around our block showed up and found even more candy.

The next thing that needed to be done was for Evan and Alexis to leave their REAL Easter baskets outside, along with some carrots, for the E.B. to fill.

That night, in their bunny jammies, the kids somehow got to sleep after a day of eating way too much candy.

Easter at Preschool

Alexis also got to celebrate Easter at preschool.  She got into the hat making action and made her own bunny hat.  They also had an egg hunt where each child found 2 eggs full of jellybeans.  Evan reminisced about how long long ago (ie. last year) he was in preschool and got to find 2 eggs with jellybeans in them.  They also learned several songs about Easter.

Ok so winter's back...

Ya, we thought we were done with so but no such luck.  We got a real dump today and the kids took the time to go and have a blast in what we can only hope is actually this year's last snow.

First the driveway was shoveled.

Then it was snowball time.

Last it was sledding time.

What fun!

Library books

Evans library day at school is on Wednesdays.  He usually brings home a Nate the Great book or a book by Mo Willems.  The first thing Evan, Alexis, and I do on Wednesdays is read his library books together.  The Elephant and Piggie books are especially fun to read together because Evan will read for one character and I will read for the other.  Alexis loves Elephant and Piggie so she just listens along laughing.
Recently however Evan has discovered there are cookbooks in the school library.  Being as obsessed with food as he is he has been bringing them home every week.  We have made banana squares and raspberry and white chocolate muffins- neither of which turned out that good.  The one recipe which did turn out okay was blueberry pancakes.

Here is Evan with his cookbook:

Here he is stirring the blueberry pancake batter:

Yum.

Egg hunt in Vienna

It's hard to believe it just snowed but everything is green again and we're ready for spring.  Alexis and Evan went to the Town of Vienna's Egg Roll.

First they met up with a furry friend.
Then it was off to hunt for candy filled eggs (yum).

One of the reasons why we love Vienna is because it puts on these great town events.

Playing in the snow

There's very little snow out here in Virginia (not that there was a ton in Seattle) so when it snows Alexis and Evan love to go out and play.  We woke up to a dusting one morning and Alexis immediately got on her snow gear and had a little party.

Happy birthday to Seth

I had a great birthday this year.  The kids got me some great presents.

Like this one of a kind drawing that's now hanging in my office.

There was also a great strawberry filled cake that was oh so yummy.

Thanks for making my day so special!

Handprints

Evan's class makes hats.  Alexis's class makes handprints.  Several handprint crafts come home each month which I just eat up.  Here are a couple of them:

Hats

One of the best things about kindergarten is the hats.  For every occasion there seems to be a hat.  Sometimes there are several hats.  What do you do when there are 28 kids in your class?  Make hats (Of course I am not at all bitter about the large class size- ha)
Here are the hats Evan has come home with since Thanksgiving.

Turkey hat- he writes what he is thankful for on each feather.  I actually thought this one was really cute.  Probably because he wrote God, parents, sister, and grandparents on the feathers (excuse me while I pat myself on the back).

Pilgrim hat

Native American hat, although on the east coast they are still getting away with using the term Indians along with making the Native American hat with the stereotypical feather on it.

Groundhog hat for Groundhogs Day.  The best is when all 3 kindergarteners come off the bus wearing their hats.  Usually one has taken it off on the way home but I was lucky on Groundhog's Day to not only have all 3 boys get off still wearing their hats but to have my phone.

Abraham Lincoln's stove pipe hat.  Here is a fun fact according to Evan Abraham Lincoln use to write reminders to himself and keep them in his hat.  The kids had to write what they would keep in their hats.  Evan wrote he would keep his marbles in his hat.

100th day hat

Evan brought in 100 candy hearts for the 100th day since it fell close to Valentine's Day.

Cat in the Hat hat for Read Across America.  This hat was actually purchased.  Every kid in the school had to dress up like someone from a Dr Suess book and then there was a parade.  Most kids, including Evan just wore the Dr. Suess hat.
