This past weekend Jill went away with a few of her friends for a yoga retreat and Evan and I spent the weekend alone together. We weren't really alone. Dave, Vincent, Evan and Liam were also without wives/mommies so we hung out together at a Bar B Que at Dave's house on Friday. Evan and I also met up with our old friends Joe and Laura and their two children Joey and Anabelle at the Children's Museum. We had a blast. As the day went on however, Evan got a bit cranky and decided not to want to sleep at all Friday night. He wouldn't go to sleep in his crib so after a few hours of trying I just took him in the bed with me and he passed out.
On Saturday we played together in the morning and I had a babysitter in the afternoon for a bit of a daddy break (golf with friends). I got home expecting Evan to be asleep, but he was still awake! Our sitter let me know Evan had no interest in going to sleep (this had never happened before to her). Much like on Friday evening I tried and tried to get him to bed but he wouldn't go - so he wound up in my bed again.
Sunday morning we stayed at home waiting for Comcast to show up to fix our Internet (they never showed up, pinning us in the condo between 8am and 1pm). Evan also refused to go for a nap on Sunday instead choosing to play in his crib. Boy were we both happy to see Mommy's face walk in the door at 5:30! Jill was able to put Evan to sleep and return a bit or normalcy to our lives.
I'm not entirely sure what transpired this weekend but in between the fits and no-sleep Evan and I did have a good time. I'm up to give this another try because I want to do better next time, so Jill, it's time to plan another mini vacation!
