An Evan Update

On March 13 Evan officially turned 3 ½ . We thought Evan deserved his own update on his blog. We had heard 3 is the new 2 and were a bit nervous but 3 to 3 ½ has overall been pretty good.

In some ways Evan has become a lot more independent. He is completely potty trained. He insists on doing many things on his own like getting his own breakfast, brushing his teeth, and putting on his shoes. He is getting a lot better at dressing and undressing himself. He will completely clear his place from the table after eating. Sometimes he even goes as far to put the dishes in the dishwasher.

In other areas Evan continues to remain very dependent. He is extremely active and likes lots of attention from us. He can play by himself for short periods of time but he would much prefer our interaction. He likes to be the center of attention. He talks constantly. We think that he could be a lawyer because he is constantly negotiating his case and trying to get what he wants from you. His negotiation skills and persistence will serve him well one day but it can be frustrating.

It is hard to stay upset with Evan for too long because he is extremely sweet and affectionate. He is constantly smothering us with hugs and kisses. He is always saying, “I love you” or “I am crazy about you”.

Jill and I continued to be amazed at Evan’s imagination. He loves to make up and tell stories, often involving our friend Peep. He also uses his imagination in his play. He could spend an hour having an imaginary birthday party for Shamoo or one of his ladybugs. He got a doctor kit for Christmas and often “heals” all his animal friends or any willing human patient. Unfortunately for his victims all of his exams involve a shot.

Evan still enjoys books. He will get hooked on one book and ask for it to be read to him a couple times a day for a week. He has a subscription to High Five magazine which he loves. After the first 2 days we all have it memorized from reading it so often.

One of Evan’s absolute favorite things is going to the Tiny Tots symphony in Seattle. He is constantly pretending he is one of the symphony ladies and puts on complete shows for us.

Evan is a wonderful big brother to Alexis. Evan was extremely wary of the idea of having a baby in the house but he has risen to the occasion. He loves Alexis and showers her with affection. The other day he was pretending Alexis was air traffic control and would request permission from her before allowing his airplane to take off.

Evan hates getting his picture taken. It takes a lot of convincing (ie. Tic Tacs) to get him to stay still and look at the camera. Hence we have been getting a lot more pictures of Alexis than Evan. Jill did manage to get him to pose for the camera on our recent trip. Here is our boy:
